Rj was fresh from winning “the King of Concrete” skate comp at noble park on the weekend with an assortment of scars to prove it. I was welcomed with a beer, and with that in hand we talked and I photographed RJ for an hour or so, it’s clear from the images what a massive part of his life his son Soul is.
A massive thank you to RJ, Jess and Soul for letting me into their lives for an hour
Q:How old are you?
RJ. 31
Q: How long have you been skating for?
RJ: 27 years. A couple off for injuries and other… activites
Q: Where did you first start skating?
RJ: Fremantle. We had an indoor park, the edge, full of half pipes and ramps. Closed in 91
Q: Who has or was the biggest influence on you?
RJ: I think seeing a poster of Hosoi doing a massive judo air, no helmet raw af made me want.to do that sort.of thing. That and being on deck while Tas came off the roll in doing a huge ally oop flip grab… i wanted to fly like those guys.
Q: Where’s your favourite spot to skate?
RJ: I reckon noble right now. But all over, Lincoln city in Oregon has to be my favorite place
Q: Rules to live and skate by?
RJ: If you’re not going your hardest and best what’s the point of doing what you’re doing.
