Amazon Product Photography

Recently I had an enquiry from Wild Mugs if I could take professional product photographs that they could use on Amazon?

The Brief

Daryl we are launching a product range on Amazon are you able to take a range of shots that will meet their requirements?

Amazon Product image Specifications can be found HERE

I have professionally photographed heaps product for other business in the past. I had also worked with other business which required images specific to Amazon.

What is the difference?

To be honest the main point that I explain to my clients is that amazon requires their images to be presented on a screen white background to quote Amazon.

“Backgrounds must be pure white (RGB 255,255,255)”

I have written a extensive blog explaining the difference between a white background and a screen white background HERE

Everything else that Amazon Requires we take care of by default and then some.

So for us and the client it mean that we have to remove the background during post production to produce the required pure white (RGB 255,255,255).

Another part of the brief required the product to be merchandised.

Wild Mugs brought the props and we did the rest.

Post Production

Professionally photographing product during COVID stage 4 lockdown brings its own challenges. Typically during a shoot if it was required and the client had the time we would have the client In the studio, especially when shoots become a bit more creative. This way they can help to direct the images, because in their minds they have an idea of how they want the image to look. In terms of point of view from which the photograph is taken etc. However at the moment clients are having product couriered to the studio and then detailed email and phone conversations ensure. We have taken the approach of presenting the clients with a wide range of images for them to go over. They can then choose which images they would like to use. This way we can work on the post production on those specific images.

Amazon Specifics

It was interesting to have a look at other products presented on Amazon and realise that images were also being presented with the surface on which they were siting on in the photographs, despite Amazons own images specification requirements. In the end I was happy to present  images to Wild Mugs in two different formats without charging any extra as the images that sit on something whilst not following Amazon’s specific guidelines presented better. Other wise images just seem to float. Examples of the images can be found below.

Delivery

Photographs are delivered via drop box or Google Drive within a week of the shoot.

Image files are separated into both high resolution print ready files, and low resolution email/web ready files.

This is standard practice with all client’s files because it removes any stress and simplifies matters. Clients instantly know from which folder to access images, depending on their marketing needs.
Images uploaded to drop box or Google Drive are easily downloaded to a desktop and can be shared with other team members who may require them

**As a little bonus for our client, we also uploaded the layered PSD (photoshopped)files as they had a graphic designer lined up to drop in backgrounds of the ocean and the Australian bush for the merchandised images. This was done at no extra charge as we had the PSD files anyway as part of the process of removing the backgrounds**

Back up

All images are kept on our drop box or Google Drive account free of charge for 12 months. This makes it easy to share image files with third parties and provides added security in case your back-up fails.
