Me and My Bass Guitar

From a young age I’ve always had a guitar lying around, in my teens my brother and I started making a racket, Mick belted the hell out of the drums and I strangled the guitar.

The first song we learnt was Wild Thing by the Troggs then came Born to be Wild by Steppin Wolf.

We’d jam with our mates; with drums and a few guitars, no one wanted to play bass cause that wasn’t cool.I borrowed a bass guitar and we belted out a few tunes and my love for bass began. It’s hard to explain the feeling I get when playing (sometimes I get that into a groove that I’ve missed the change), and the way a good bass line brings the drums, guitar and vocals together is very satisfying to the soul.

My first real bass was a 1974 Gibson Grabber bass (one day I’ll get the old girl back) After a long break adulting I’ve joined my brothers band (first band we have been in for over 30 years) and my love for the bass has returned, that family feeling is there, feeling the bass punch you in the chest your leg starts twitchin and you’re in the moment…
