Me and My Speed Skates
Skating was my passion as a teenager. Spending most Saturdays at Caribbean Rollerama, I knew early on that I needed to save to buy my own skates, instead of the ugly, uncomfortable brown ones.
From the moment I put on my speed skates, I had grip and control, I could go faster than ever before and was more agile which helped with the ‘Apple Cart’.
My absolute favourite part of the session was when the DJ played Iron Maiden ‘Run to the Hills’ for the speed skaters, pumped with adrenaline and Fanta, I’d hammer around, pushing hard around the corners, passing the boys and belting out the lyrics at the top of my lungs.
These were happy, simple times as a fifteen year old. I love that nostalgic, buzzy feeling I get when I occasionally put on my skates.
